Social Responsabily

Creates sustainable employment for farming families in , farmers are paid above fair trade standards for their exceptional crop

MEET THE FARMER

This family-owned estate is extraordinarily socially conscious. They use fermented coffee cherries to create natural gas, which partially powers their operation. They also donate books and computers to the local schools, and in a more rural area, they built and funded a new school preventing small children from having to walk over 15 km each way to class. They also help Haitians obtain legal residence in the Dominican Republic, in order to receive fair wages. We pay roughly 300% higher wages to this Estate for their exceptional care of the environment, organic certification, care for local Haitian immigrants, and high cupping scores.

WHY CAFE KREYOL?

We believe farmers should get paid based on the quality of their product and we practice this belief by paying up to 300% higher wages than what Fair Trade requires.

This Direct Trade system, that is now the backbone of Cafe Kreyol, believes that quality and sustainability are parallel.

Our story continues as we work to alleviate poverty in rural coffee growing regions, one cup at a time.

      Drum Roaster

This graph is a guideline for how we roast this coffee using a Drum Roaster.

Every roaster is different, and you know your roasting method best. Please use this information to help you develop your own roast profile, and make great tasting coffee.

This red honey processed coffee requires a steady hand and a fast fan. You’ll want to focus on convection heat over conductive heating by increasing drum speed and/or fan speed. This will keep the fruit and sweetness intact. You’ll know it’s roasted right if the beans give off a sweet jam note the days following the roast.
      • Bean Density: High
      • Moisture Level: 11.2%
      • Cupping Score: 92 points
