Cafe Kreyol Underground Blend Hack: Our team loves to blend this coffee with our Bolivia Selva Verde. The banana milkshake notes from this Anaerobic Colombia Caturra, combine with the chocolatey notes from the Bolivia Selva Verde, create what we call our “ChocoBanana” blend. Try it out at home in a pour over, an espresso shot, or in a drip coffee pot!

MEET THE FARMER

The Vergel Estate is owned by Marta Bayter, and all of their coffee is processed by her two sons, Shady and Elias.

Years ago, Marta was getting ready to abandon her crops, as coffee prices continued to drop in a competitive market. With the help of her two sons, the Vergel Estate began planting unique varieties such as Java, Pacamara, and Geisha.

Through unique processing methods, Marta began to fetch 5 – 10 times what they did previously for their coffee. As their business increased, they decided to work with 25 surrounding producers, assisting them in pivoting their farms, just as the Bayter family did.

Shady and Elias do the processing for each of these surrounding farms as well. This has led to the producers having access to the global market, gaining awards from prestigious organizations, and receiving payment of 5 to 10 times as much for their coffee. In 2022, Cafe Kreyol won a silver medal from the Golden Bean North America, received a 94 point score from Coffee Review, and won “Roaster of the Year” from Roast Magazine, all with coffee from the Vergel Estate.

WHY CAFE KREYOL?

We believe farmers should get paid based on the quality of their product and we practice this belief by paying up to 300% higher wages than what Fair Trade requires.

This Direct Trade system, that is now the backbone of Cafe Kreyol, believes that quality and sustainability are parallel.
